Legendary Loss Is Like A Global Quake

Updated: Feb 25

Today, our heads hang low following the tragic event that lead to the death of legendary basketball star, Kobe Bryant and his 13 year old daughter, Gianna, yesterday. Bryant was traveling with his daughter and 7 others by helicopter, when it lost control, crashing into the hills of Calabasas, California. All 9 passengers died on impact. If you have followed the news with the rest of the world, then you know how slowly and painfully this story has unfolded over the past two days. There is still such a heaviness lingering in the air, and things feel a bit quiet.

I was spending time with my family at Knott's Berry Farm for a day of fun, when we learned of the tragic event. I was floored in disbelief and consumed with immense grief, thinking about this massive loss and the impact it will have on his poor wife, daughters, family, friends, and of course his fans. You don't have to be a super-fan to feel the magnitude of such a tragedy. We knew him as a worldwide legend, an inspiration, a family man, and we can only imagine the loss ourselves, as a parent, a spouse, a child, a friend, a fan. We can connect as human beings, and feel the grief endured by his loved ones, as if it were our own.

Legendary loss is like a global quake, waking humanity up, to value how precious life truly is. Let's not forget those whose names are not familiar to us, are just as important to that of the legendary ones. I am deeply saddened by this unfathomable loss, that has rattled hearts worldwide. My heart goes out to the many families that are experiencing immense grief, directly connected to this tragic loss. Shall we grieve and support them as a community, by human connection alone. May this darkness bring light to the value of how precious life is.
